Portia joined Sibylla in June 2004. However, she first
sang with Sibylla as a guest performer in The Catholic
University production of The Libation Bearers, a modern
opera by Andrew Simpson and Sarah Brown Ferrario.
Portia is a transplanted Texan, having lived in northern Virginia for 15 years. She was introduced to music at age 5 when she began studying piano under Jane Sugars, founder of Houston Music Institute. During Portia’s junior high years, she joined the school choir as an alto, but moved up to soprano in her senior high school choir when she began voice lessons with Mrs. Sugars. Regretfully, Portia did not pursue music in college, but she "kept her voice in shape" by singing in friends’ weddings. (Yes, she was known as The Wedding Singer.)
In addition to singing in Sibylla, Portia is a member of Cathedral Choral Society. In her spare time, Portia is an avid baker, wine aficionado, movie-goer, and a pursuer of the perfect Cosmopolitan.
